Boys Amateur Championship 2017

Came Down Golf Club hosted the 2017 South Western Counties Golf Association South West Boys Amateur Championship on a beautiful sunny day, with very little wind, providing a superb course in ideal golfing conditions.

The field of fifty-four competitors played thirty-six holes over this well established course that measures 6,255 yards with a par of 70, offering a varied and beguiling test for all golfers and superb views of the surrounding countryside.

The morning round produced two fine rounds of 66, one over the existing course record, by James Cooper (Cumberwell Park - Wiltshire) and Jack Cope (Minchinhampton - Gloucestershire), with Matt Bell of LilleyBrook Golf Club a further two shots off the pace.

The afternoon round provided Thomas Plumb of Sherborne Golf Club (Somerset) with a score of 67, one shot ahead of Joe Retford (Cumberwell Park Golf Club - Wiltshire).

The South Western Counties Amateur Boys Champion was James Cooper with rounds of 66 + 69 for a total of 135, recording a two stroke victory from runner-up Thomas Plumb 70 + 67 totalling 137.

In third place was Taylor Stote (Enmore Park Golf Club - Somerset), last years runner-up.

The Team Championship and Qualifying Round for the English Boys County Finals to be played at Northamptonshire County Golf Club on 29th - 31st August 2017 was won by Somerset, with a score of 719, represented by Louis Archer, Jake Bovington, Huxley Howell, Thomas Plumb, Taylor Stote and Dylan Xanh. Their team manager is Ian Poole.

Runners-Up were Wiltshire with 727 represented by James Cooper, Jamie Cooper, Harry Moule, Joe Retford, Tom Stagg and Dan Woodley. Their team manager is Ian Welding.

Dorset were 3rd on 735 on count-back from Gloucestershire, 5th came Devon on 744 and sixth Cornwall on 757.
