South Western Counties 2019 Boy's Championship

Mendip Spring Golf & Country Club

       Mendip Spring Golf & Country Club were this year's hosts for the South Western Counties Boy's Championship and following a hot, dry spell of weather and a stiff breeze on the day, proved to be a challenge for the field of fifty-one golfers.

 

      The morning round produced some fine scoring with Thomas Kollberg (Broadstone Golf Club - Dorset) leading the way with a score of 70. A further shot back on 71 were Oliver Park (Dudsbury Golf Club - Dorset) and James Reed (Exeter Golf & Country Club - Devon).

 

      The afternoon round saw two home club players returning 70's, Dylan Xahn and Ollie Brimfield. A further shot back were Alex Johnston (Broadstone Golf Club - Dorset) and Fred Bishop (Exeter Golf & Country Club - Devon).

       The South Western Counties Boy's Champion for 2019 was Dylan Xahn from the home club representing Somerset with rounds of 72 + 70 = 142. (pictured below).

 

 

       A single shot back was Fred Bishop (Exeter Golf & Country Club - Devon) with rounds of 72 + 71 = 143.

 

         In third place was Ollie Brimfield (Mendip Spring Golf Club - Somerset) scoring 75 + 70 totalling 145.

 

         The England Golf Boys Qualifier resulted in a twenty-seven stroke victory by Devon who will now go on to represent the South West Region in the English Boys County Finals to be staged at North Foreland Golf Club on 27th to 29th August 2019.    

 

      The team of:-

         David Baldwin, Fred Bishop Jack Jeffery, Matt Millar, Craig Passmore & James Reed recorded a team total of 734. The team manager was Gary Milne. (Pictured below).

 

 

          Runners-up were Somerset

    Ollie Brimfield, Charlie Goss, Huxley Howell, Bailey Langford, Freddie Turnell & Dylan Xanh recording 761. Their team manager was Ian Poole.

 

        Third were Dorset on 762, Fourth were Cornwall on 765, 5th Gloucestershire on 771 and sixth came Wiltshire on 787.
