Played at Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club

On

Thursday 8th July 2021

The 2021 South Western Counties Golf Association Boys Championship was played over the delightful Salisbury & South Wilts Golf Club in almost perfect golfing conditions on a well manicured course.

Because of the Covid-19 situation there was a restricted field of only forty-seven competitors.

The morning round produced some fine scoring with two players one under par with rounds of 70, Louis Ross (Gloucestershire) and Josh Hill (Devon).

A further shot behind were:- Ethan Tempest (Cornwall), Milan Reed (Gloucestershire), Alistair Curnock (Gloucestershire), Fred Bishop (Devon) and Jake Moore (Dorset).

The afternoon scoring was even better with Josh Hill (Devon) adding a 67 to his morning 70.

Cameron Young (Wiltshire) over his home course recorded an excellent 68, as did Milan Reed (Gloucestershire). Dewi John (Somerset) recorded a 70 and Fred Bishop (Devon) and Thomas Stephens (Cornwall) both carded 71.

The South Western Counties Boys Champion for 2021 was Josh Hill representing Devon with his excellent 36 hole total of 137.

Milan Reed (Gloucestershire) was runner-up just two shots back on 139. A further three shots back was Fred Bishop (Devon) on 142.

The Team event to find the qualifying team to represent the South West in the English Boys County Finals to be played at Coxmoor Golf Club, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire in August was a really nail biting affair.

At lunch Devon were leading by six shots from Gloucestershire, but, throughout the afternoon round this lead was gradually whittled down and the final scores returned brought the two counties together in a tie with both counties on 727 (+17).  The eventual winners decided on the sixth card play-off were Gloucestershire.

Their team represented by Alistair Curnock, Harry Griffiths, Ashley & Joshua Millington, Milan Reed and Louis Ross and their team manager Mark Powell are shown holding the trophy.

Wiltshire came third on 740 and Somerset fourth on 751.
