The 2022 Seniors Amateur Championships took place at Bristol & Clifton GC which was presented to the players in tip top condition and being a little fiery made for an even bigger challenge for the competitors.
The first round was played in good spirit with all players fighting hard to keep the scores down and no player in this round broke par or better. Gloucestershire’s Steve Yorke was the early clubhouse leader on 72 and was joined by Wiltshire’s Jez Tomlinson and Dorset’s Tony Cole. With the start sheet flipped the second round got under way. The scoring was much better as players learned how to combat the course and its bounce. Mark Snape took the clubhouse lead with a fine 73 & 74 147 total. The second round went to Tony Cole along with the Crown of SW Seniors Champion when he came home with a level round of 70 for a 2 over total of 142. This was 5 clear of Mark and 6 of his playing partner Jez Tomlinson who had a 76.
Congratulations to Tony Cole winner of the Leonard Lake Trophy and SWCGA Seniors Amateur Champion.

The South West Group Qualifying Competition for the England Golf Seniors County Finals to be played at Rothley Park Golf Club Leicestershire was a closely contested affair with some four Counties in contention after the first day. Cornwall slipped away in the second round but Dorset who were in fourth pulled back to get in contention and with Gloucestershire slipping back it was down to the determined Wiltshire players who fought hard to overall Gloucestershire and take the title by 7 shots from Dorset with Gloucester one back in third.
