The annual fixture between the South Western Counties and the Midland Golf Union came to Bristol & Clifton Golf Club on Thursday 19th & Friday 20th October 2017.
Unfortunately, as the teams and officials arrived for the practice day on Thursday the heavens opened and the course was hit with a deluge of rain rendering the course unplayable on the practice day.
The players returned on Friday to discover that the greens-staff had worked tirelessly to present the course in a playable condition for match day.
The foursomes provided some excellent golf played in difficult blustery and cold conditions, resulting in a narrow lead of 3 1/2 to 1 1 /2 to the home team.
With the threat of further heavy rain forecast for the afternoon, a decision was taken to play a two tee start for the afternoon singles to try and ensure the match was concluded without further disruption.
The singles results went in favour of the SWCGA team by a margin of 7 1/2 to 2 1/2 to seal an 11 - 4 victory.
