South Western Counties Golf Association versus the Midland Golf Union
at Ross-on-Wye Golf Club on Thursday 17th & Friday 18th October 2019.
The annual match staged at the excellent venue of Ross-on-Wye Golf Club was unfortunately curtailed because of heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
The practice round on Thursday was completed by the players, but, the Officials match was brought to an abrupt end by forked lightning directly overhead, accompanied by thunder and heavy rain. The match had been narrowly won by the officials from the South Western Counties as the matches stood at 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 at that stage, so, the SW retained the trophy.
On match day - Friday 18th the teams all got off the first tee before heavy rain again began to fall. The morning Foursomes all played to a conclusion whilst heavy rain persisted throughout.
Joe Harvey & Jake Phillips lost 1 down to Sam Broadhurst & Joe Macilwraith
James Reed & Sam Dunn lost 3 & 2 to Simon Richardson & Sam Done
Will Poole & Taylor Stote won 2 & 1 against Liam Phipps & Lewis Phillips
David Norton & Pete Corrick lost 6 & 5 to Jordan Boulton & Jake McGoldrick
Joe Reynard & Rob McGregor won 2 & 1 against Leon Leaney & Chris Haynes
Our South Western Counties Golf Association officials looking on.
The lunchtime score standing at SWCGA 2 versus 3 The Midlands, and no let up in the heavy rain falling onto a saturated course led to an abandonment of the match resulting in the Midlands retaining the trophy.
