South West Week 2023

The 2023 South West Week was hosted by Perranporth GC which was in tremendous condition and provided all with a great venue for the weeks golf.

The weather was not so kind to us this year as the initial days were plagued with sea mist. We lost the Tuesday Stroke Play due to the mist and we eventually got an abridged version of Wednesdays matches played moving the Stroke Play to the Wednesday.  Again we were plagued with the mist but we eventually managed to get started and ran the Championship over eighteen holes.  Whilst not a course record Somersets Curtis Edwards had a super round of 67 to take the Championship and become the 2023 Amateur Champion.

The SWCGA Youths Champion

Louis Ross Gloucetershire

The Youths Championship was won by Gloucestershires Loius Ross who shot a fine 72 beating his County Team mate Joshua Millington by 2 shots. 

The England Golf County Qualifier.

With this becoming a one round shot out it was a very tight and nervy affair.  Gloucestershire just snook it by one shot from Somerset who pipped our hosts Cornwall also by one.

Our congratulations to Gary Ward and his team who will go to the English County Finals at Southport & Ainsdale GC to try and get the back which was lost at Royal Norwich last year..

 Inter-Counties Match Play Shield Winners

The Inter-Counties Match Play Shield was again very keenly contested.  Somereset got off to a fine win over Devon who then pushed them all the way  Somerset hung on to pip Devon on count back and retain the matchplay shield.

The Clifford Burden Trophy

This was very keenly contested and ended with Somersets Craig Adams taking it  by a half point from team mate Phil White.
